I began the summer with a similar backpack â another sleek, water-resistant roll top that I was sure would look bangers on my morning commute. That relationship ended when I forgot to fully zip the side pocket and my laptop hit the concrete floor of our computer lab. Worse yet, the roll top was the only access to the main compartment, so I spent almost as much time fishing for my gear as I did using it. I specifically selected the PRVKE because it had everything I liked about my old pack, but seemed to fix all the things I didn't. Having been burned once this year, I was a little reticent to pull the trigger on (another) expensive bag â but boy, am I glad I did!
The PRVKE was everything I hoped for. The clamshell opening is a revelation and the bag's configurability means I that can customize the interior for whatever gear I need that day. The tradeoff here is that the equipment padding logically adds modicum of extra weight and rigidity vs. a non-camera bag; but not so much that I'd consider it a deal breaker. It's still a surprisingly light pack given what it offers in protection and versatility. I use mine solely for academic materials and art supplies, and I use pretty much every compartment â even the quick camera access pocket comes in handy for items you need to grab quickly during the day. And while I've never needed to unroll it, it's reassuring to know that the capacity is readily expandable should such a moment arise.
